Let us help you improve your gait and alleviate foot and leg pain with custom orthotics.
Custom foot orthotics (otherwise known as orthoses) are specialized orthopedic devices designed to correct and treat many biomechanical foot disorders. Chiropodists and Podiatrists are the only regulated health professionals whose scope of practice includes providing orthotics.
Here at Pickering Foot Clinic, Ali Bandali, Chiropodist, provides true custom rigid or soft foot orthotics using Plaster of Paris molds to alleviate pain and recommends foot and lower limb exercises to help achieve long-lasting results.
Why orthotics?
We believe that your feet should not hurt. If they do, the pain is your body’s way of warning you that something is wrong. Orthotics can prevent and completely alleviate many of the common foot complications that cause discomfort in healthy people.
How to know if you need orthotics
Ask yourself these questions…
- Do you have sore arches?
- Do you have flat feet?
- Do the bottoms of your feet hurt when you walk or run?
- Do you have chronic heel, knee or lower back pain?
- Do your shins hurt?
- Do you frequently sprain your ankle?
- Are your toes crooked?
- Do your feet point inward or excessively outward when you walk?
- Does one side of the sole of your shoe wear out faster than the other?
If you answered “yes” to one or more of these questions, orthotics may be a good option for you.

Eliminate discomfort and see an improved nail and better nail bed following ingrown toenail surgery. Toenail surgery is one of the most common procedures we perform at our office. When ingrown toenails, fungal toenails, or deformed (dystrophic) toenails are unresponsive to other treatments, we often recommend toenail surgery.
Does toenail surgery hurt?
There will be some pain at the beginning of the toenail surgery. We use the latest in painless injection technology to dramatically minimize the discomfort and perform the surgery in a safe and relaxed environment.
If toenail surgery is the right course of treatment for you, we’ll recommend proper aftercare, explain what to expect from the healing process, and advise you on how to prevent future toenail problems.
Benefits
• Relief from discomfort following toenail surgery
• Improved appearance of the toenail or nail bed
• Return to normal function shortly after treatment

LIGHT THERAPY
We treat all types of toenail fungus quickly and easily with advanced Photodynamic Therapy (PDT).
What is PDT? It’s is a form of light therapy using a Genesis Health Light, an effective Health Canada-licensed and FDA-approved low-level light therapy device, and a light-sensitive compound.
When the compound is exposed to specific wavelengths of light using the Genesis Health Light, it becomes toxic to diseased cells and micro-organisms. Treatment typically involves three to four applications at three week intervals to achieve results.
Benefits of PDT for toenail fungus: Safe, effective and affordable. Non-invasive, painless procedure. No dangerous side effects. Promotes growth and healing.
The success rate of this light therapy treatment is much higher than traditional toenail fungus treatment methods. According to Genesis Health Light Corp, the current efficacy to date is estimated at 97% improvement of fungal clearance*
WHAT TO EXPECT?
-Your toenails will be blue in colour for the duration of the treatment. Your nails will fade between visits, however, the methylene blue is reapplied at each treatment.
-It may take longer than your five treatments to see full results depending on the speed of your nail growth.
-Some cases involving severely fungal nails may require additional treatments to ensure complete resolution.
COMMON CAUSES OF ONYCHOMYCOSIS: Shared nail polishes, unsterile manicures and pedicures. Communal showers, pools, hot tubs, and saunas. Damaged or injured nails. Excessive wearing of closed shoes. The treatment process is a total of 15 weeks, 5 appointments every 3 weeks. Total appointment time is approximately 30 minutes.
1) All nails will be cut and thinned out. 2) Methylene Blue is applied to all 10 nails 3) Genesis Health Light is applied for 4 minutes per section of toenails for a total of 16 minutes.
You will be provided with a take home kit with specific instructions on how to treat your socks, shoes and bedding at home, as fungal spores can survive in these environments and continue to re-infect your nails.
